El tema de los koans es un tema delicado. No es posible trabajar con un koan sin estar unido a un maestro de un modo serio, por lo que un libro no basta para iniciarse en la práctica.

Esto hacía que considerase una y otra vez si hablar de los koans era oportuno. El hecho es que, sin hablar de ellos, esta Guía hubiese estado incompleta, por lo que he decidido escribir un cuarto libro donde se tratase, desde el punto de vista del que esto escribe, el sutil tema de los koans.

Los tres primeros capítulos, sin embargo, están dedicados al budismo tibetano, dado que fue la primera rama del budismo que practiqué, en unos tiempos en que este era apenas conocido por un puñado de personas en España.

El budismo tibetano ha sido para mí un auténtico laberinto en el que no conseguí orientarme. Las enseñanzas de los lamas eran tan variadas como incomprensibles, para una mente occidental.

Y sin embargo, eran enseñanzas genuinas venidas de un lugar que se había mantenido puro, debido al casi total aislamiento en que vivieron. Por tanto dedico esos tres capítulos como una guía también para aquellos que estén pensando en meterse a practicar en esa corriente del budismo, o estando ya metidos hayan encontrado problemas.

Dedico igual que en los libros precedentes, una buena cantidad de páginas a tratar de encontrar el punto de encaje entre el budismo zen y el cristianismo, por cuanto creo que, si ambos no llegan a encontrarse, como ríos que confluyen, y a mezclar sus aguas, será imposible que el buscador occidental encuentre un verdadero camino a su medida.
